2017 James E. Beckley Competition

October 20, 2017 (Norman, OK). The PIABA Foundation, Inc. is pleased to announce the winners of the 2017 James E. Beckley Writing Competition. "Once again, the judges continue to be impressed with the quality of the writing and depth of understanding of the issues presented in the Competition submissions," said Robin Ringo, Director. "It is our honor to recognize the winning authors."

Pace Law School student, Britny Auletti was awarded 1st Place and received a $1,000 stipend. Ms. Auletti was recognized as the first place recipient at the PIABA 26th Annual Meeting in Colorado Springs, Colorado for her paper, BICE, BICE Baby: Are Investors Getting the Cold Shoulder? An Overview of the Department of Labor's Proposed Fiduciary Duty Rule

For his paper entitled, FINRA and the Developing Appointments Clause Doctrine, Wake Forest University School of Law student, Robert M. Botkin, finished second and received a $750 stipend.

The PIABA Foundation would like to acknowledge and thank the contest judging team for their contributions to the selection process: Katrina Boice (California), Jon Furgison (California), Adam Gana (New York), Timothy O'Connor (New York), and Darlene Pasieczny (Oregon). PIABA Bar Journal, Editor-in Chief, Jason Kueser, Lees Summit, Missouri, administered the contest.
