2015 James E. Beckley Competition

October 23, 2015 (Norman, OK). The PIABA Foundation, Inc. is pleased to announce the winners of the 2015 James E. Beckley Writing Competition. "The judges continue to be impressed with the quality of the writing and depth of understanding of the issues presented in the Competition submissions," said Robin Ringo, Director. "It is our honor to recognize the winning authors."

Tulane Law School student, Miles Owen Indest was awarded 1st Place, received a $1,000 stipend, and an invitation to attend the PIABA 24th Annual Meeting in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida where he was recognized by The PIABA Foundation. His paper, A Tale of Two Cities, will appear in an issue of the 2015 PIABA Bar Journal.

For her paper entitled, Mandatory Securities Arbitration: An Idea Whose Time Is Still Here?, Florida A&M College of Law student, Roni A. Elias, finished second and received a $750 stipend.

Michigan State University College of Law student, William Shotzbarger, finished in third place and received a $500 stipend for his paper, The Fog of Corporate Scienter: Resolving SEC Rule 10b-5's Circuit Split.

The PIABA Foundation would like to acknowledge and thank the contest judging team for their contributions to the selection process: Kelly Shivery, (Florida), Robert Van De Viere, (New York), Patricia Vannoy (Nebraska), Joseph Wojciechowski (Illinois), and Elizabeth Zeck (South Carolina). PIABA Bar Journal, Editor-in Chief, Michael Edmiston, Studio City, California, administered the contest.
